New Transfer Functions for Correcting Turbulent Water Vapour Fluxes

چکیده
We address the problem of the high-frequency correction of water vapour fluxes measured by eddy covariance with a closed-path infrared gas analyser (IRGA). Different transfer functions are compared and evaluated at a forested (Vielsalm, Belgium) and an agricultural (Lonzée, Belgium) site. Classical functions, usually applied to correct CO2 fluxes (Gaussian, Lorentzian), are found to be unsuited towater vapour cospectral corrections, being characterised by too sharp a decrease at high frequency. Two other functions characterised by a lower decreasing slope are found to better fit experimental transfer functions. They were calibrated and validated on experimental transfer functions and their dependency on air humidity is parameterised. On this basis, new correction coefficients are estimated. The coefficients are found to be larger than those based on the classical functions, even when the dependency of the latter on air humidity is taken into account. The difference amounts to 10% at the forested site and to 5% larger at the crop site. The study highlights the necessity of characterising the water transfer function shape and taking it into account in the correction factor at each site equipped with a closed path IRGA.

Monin–Obukhov Similarity Functions for the Structure Parameters of Temperature and Humidity
Monin–Obukhov similarity functions for the structure parameters of temperature and humidity are needed to derive surface heat and water vapour fluxes from scintillometer measurements and it is often assumed that the two functions are identical in the atmospheric surface layer. Nevertheless, this assumption has not yet been verified experimentally. This study investigates the dissimilarity betwe...

The main purpose of this study is to estimate the step heat fluxes applied to the wall of a two-dimensional symmetric channel with turbulent flow. For inverse analysis, conjugate gradient method with adjoint problem is used. In order to calculate the flow field, two equation model is used. In this study, adjoint problem is developed to conduct an inverse analysis of heat transfer in a channel...

Source distributions for heat, water vapour, CO2 and CH4 within a rice canopy were derived using measured concentration profiles, a prescribed turbulence field and an inverse Lagrangian analysis of turbulent dispersion of scalars in plant canopies. Measurements were made during IREX96, an international rice experiment in Okayama, Japan. Results for the cumulative fluxes of heat, water vapour an...
متن کاملTemperature Distribution of a Non gray Gas between Two Parallel Planes Using Exponential Wide Band Model
In this paper, the Radiation Transfer Equation(RTE) for a non-gray gas between two large parallel planes has been
solved and the temperature distribution obtained. With the RTE, solution heat fluxes are also determined. Since and are two components of most combustion products, the problem has been solved for these two gases. The results were, whenever possible, compared with data reported ...
متن کاملSimplified expressions for adjusting higher-order turbulent statistics obtained from open path gas analyzers
When density fluctuations of scalars such as CO2 are measured with openpath gas analyzers, the measured vertical turbulent flux must be adjusted to take into account fluctuations induced by ‘external effects’ such as temperature and water vapour. These adjustments are needed to separate the effects of surface fluxes responsible for ‘natural’ fluctuations in CO2 concentration from these external...
